Only For a Moment

By: Simone Nabors

Tonight the world is crimson

As the sun fades away,

So does time

The moon dances across a burning sky

A cherry hanging from the universal tree of life

A ruby rose reveals its eternal beauty

The seemingly perfect leaves expose their true colors,

Scarlet

A scarlet blanket that is far too hot for late fall covers the sweet memories Of summer

A worried cardinal mother calls home to her babies,

Letting them know that she will be home soon

The scorching embers of a fire light the night

They shine like lightning bugs,

But for only a second

A child plays in the burgundy night

Her life calm and at ease

But only for a moment

A thorn has pierced her delicate skin and leaves a trail of maroon liquid

The pain will subside

The cut will heal and fade into a distant memory

But that is what life is

It’s like the color red

It stimulates and excites now,

But in a split second it can burn,

and it will sting

With every twist and turn it’s the same

From any angle red is still red

It may be a rose, or a cherry, or even a crimson cardinal,

But it is still the same

Just like life
